Proficiency test for forensic laboratories started – GSR2016

The registration phase for the international ENFSI proficiency test on the identification of gunshot residues (GSR) using scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy has closed. This year has seen nearly 60 laboratories from 29 different countries take part. In the coming weeks, the samples will be prepared and shipped.

The GSR proficiency test is organized, conducted and statistically evaluated by QuoData on behalf of the European Network of Forensic Science Institutes (ENFSI). The unique sample material provided becomes the property of the participating laboratories and can be used later outside of the PT for internal quality assurance purposes. To assist laboratories in the assessment of their results, QuoData has developed an online web tool designed to evaluate quality control measurements quickly and with high precision.

The close cooperation between QuoData and ENFSI goes back many years. However only since 2010, has the GSR PT takes place annually.

QuoData takes care of the planning and the evaluation of the proficiency test on laboratory performance as a service for ENFSI. Besides ENFSI, QuoData works together with a number of other authorities and companies providing similar services – for example the German Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL).
