Interlaboratory Trial 2024: Advancing Hormonal Activity Detection in Water Samples

Interlaboratory Trial 2024: Advancing Hormonal Activity Detection in Water Samples

An exciting opportunity for laboratories as the 2024 Interlaboratory Study for effect-based in vitro methods to detect hormonal activity in aqueous samples is set to launch this autumn. We invite you to participate in this study to enhance your laboratory's performance. Let's take a brief look at the first interlaboratory trial organized in 2021.

Interlaboratory Trial 2021:

The 2021 Interlaboratory study was organized and analyzed by QuoData GmbH using their certified software, PROLab Plus A 2021. QuoData is known for its expertise in combining mathematical and data sciences with life sciences. Our colleagues actively contribute to the development and implementation of the latest ISO standards for quality assurance.

In this interlaboratory study, participants used methods from ISO 19040-1:2018, ISO 19040-2:2018, and ISO 19040-3:2018 to detect estrogenic activity in aqueous samples. Two samples were tested: an artificial surface water and a food product extract, both spiked with 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2). Statistical analysis focused on EEQ (ng/L), LID (lowest ineffective dilution), and the standard deviation of the non-linear regression analysis. Most results were within the tolerance limits, except for one participant/sample combination that exceeded the upper tolerance limit slightly.

The statistical analysis of participant results was conducted using EEQ (ng/L) as the primary parameter, with assessments based on z-scores. Additionally, the analysis included an evaluation of the Lowest Ineffective Dilution (LID) and a thorough examination of the dilution curves for both samples.

Participating laboratories benefited with:

  • For Accredited Laboratories: Successful participation helped them meet ISO 17025:2018 requirements by demonstrating engagement in an appropriate interlaboratory comparison program as part of external quality assurance.
  • For Non-Accredited Laboratories: Provided an opportunity to assess testing performance compared to other laboratories.
